Description
Vintage The Fisher DR-14 CD-4 Disc Demodulator, fully tested and working. An unusual piece of early-1970s quadraphonic audio history, the DR-14 was designed specifically for playback of CD-4 / Quadradisc discrete four-channel vinyl records. Unlike matrix-based quadraphonic systems such as SQ and QS, CD-4 was designed to retrieve four discrete audio channels from specially encoded records. The DR-14 receives the signal from a compatible turntable/cartridge and demodulates the CD-4 information into separate front-left, front-right, rear-left and rear-right channels for connection to a four-channel audio system. The Fisher DR-14 was introduced around 1973 and is closely related to the JVC 4DD-5, one of the best-known standalone CD-4 demodulators of the period. Contemporary audio publications announced the Fisher DR-14 in 1973 at an original retail price of approximately $120.
