Offered by Bash Vintage Audio is a very attractive Pioneer SX-780 vintage AM/FM stereo receiver with its original-style wood cabinet. This SX-780 has been serviced, selectively recapped, cleaned, detailed, LED upgraded, and operationally tested for more than 3 hours on the bench. Previous electronic work includes visible electrolytic capacitor replacement on both the GWK-118 AF / amplifier / power-supply assembly and the AWE-099 tuner assembly. Internal photographs are included to document the actual work present in this receiver. Importantly, this receiver is not represented as fully recapped. A number of original components remain, including what appear to be the original large main filter capacitors. The front presentation is particularly strong, with a clean polished aluminum faceplate, attractive dial illumination, complete controls, working meters, and classic Pioneer styling. Serial Number: AB3665350S Electronic Service & Selective Recap Internal inspection shows meaningful previous capacitor replacement across two of the SX-780's major circuit-board assemblies. GWK-118 AF / Amplifier / Power-Supply Assembly Multiple electrolytic capacitors have been replaced on the GWK-118 main AF / amplifier / power-supply assembly. This assembly contains circuitry associated with several critical receiver functions, including: Audio amplification Regulated power supply Signal coupling and decoupling Amplifier operating circuits Protection-related circuitry Why This Work Matters Replacing aging or deteriorated electrolytic capacitors in these areas can contribute to: Improved power-supply stability Reduced power-supply ripple and hum More consistent operating voltages Lower noise Improved channel stability More reliable amplifier operation Improved long-term reliability compared with failed or deteriorated original electrolytics The two large main power-supply filter capacitors appear to remain original and are not represented as having been replaced. AWE-099 Tuner Assembly — Selective Capacitor Replacement The AWE-099 tuner assembly also shows previous selective electrolytic capacitor replacement. Several newer capacitors are visible while original components remain elsewhere on the board. Why This Work Matters Replacement of deteriorated electrolytic capacitors in tuner and associated circuitry can help support: Stable FM and AM operation Reduced noise Consistent tuner performance Reliability of aging tuner circuitry Because original capacitors remain on both assemblies, this receiver is accurately represented as selectively / partially recapped — not fully recapped. Please review the detailed internal photographs included with the listing. They show the actual receiver and allow buyers to inspect the previous electronic work for themselves. Bash Vintage Audio Cleaning & Detailing This SX-780 received extensive cosmetic preparation by Bash Vintage Audio. Knobs All knobs removed Ultrasonically cleaned Individually hand polished Reinstalled after cleaning Faceplate Brushed-aluminum faceplate carefully cleaned Faceplate hand polished Lettering preserved Dial glass cleaned and detailed Additional Preparation Switches and control surfaces cleaned Wood cabinet carefully cleaned and conditioned Rear panel cleaned and detailed RCA connections visually inspected Speaker terminals visually inspected Interior inspected Internal circuit boards extensively photographed Exterior extensively photographed following preparation The goal was to improve presentation without removing the authentic character of this vintage Pioneer receiver. 3+ Hours of Bench Testing Following preparation, this Pioneer SX-780 underwent more than 3 hours of bench testing and operational evaluation. This was not simply a brief power-on test. The extended test period was used to evaluate the receiver during prolonged operation and check for consistent performance over time. The receiver was operating normally during the testing performed. As with any vintage electronic component, future maintenance may eventually be required as components continue to age. Cosmetic Condition The front of this SX-780 presents exceptionally well for its age. Highlights include: Clean brushed-aluminum faceplate Faceplate cleaned and polished Strong original lettering Clean dial glass Complete matching knobs Ultrasonically cleaned and polished knobs Attractive warm dial illumination Working meters Working indicator lighting Clean rear panel Original-style wood cabinet Original Wood Cabinet The wood cabinet retains attractive original-style grain and presents well overall, but it does show normal age-related cosmetic wear. Visible imperfections include: Wear along portions of the upper edges Small veneer chips Edge wear Corner wear Minor scratches and marks Normal finish variation Other small signs of age consistent with a vintage component The cabinet has been carefully cleaned and conditioned but has not been represented as mint or newly re-veneered. Detailed close-up photographs are included so buyers can evaluate the cabinet condition before purchasing. Photographs, Video & Condition Disclosure The photographs in this listing show the actual Pioneer SX-780 being offered for sale. I have made every reasonable effort to photograph and disclose the receiver’s cosmetic condition, including close-up views of: Faceplate and controls Dial and illumination Wood cabinet Edge and corner wear Veneer imperfections Rear panel and connections Internal chassis GWK-118 assembly AWE-099 tuner assembly Previous capacitor replacement Remaining original components Serial number A YouTube demonstration video of this exact receiver is also included. Please review all photographs and the video carefully before purchasing, as they are considered an important part of the condition description. I have tried to take as many detailed photographs as reasonably possible to disclose visible wear and imperfections. However, this is a vintage receiver and it can be difficult to capture every small scratch, mark, finish variation, edge imperfection, or sign of age in photographs. If you have any questions about the condition, service history, operation, or anything you see in the photographs or video, please ask before purchasing. I am happy to provide additional information or additional photographs when reasonably possible. The goal is to represent the receiver as accurately and transparently as possible so there are no surprises when it arrives. YouTube Video Demonstration A YouTube demonstration of the exact Pioneer SX-780 offered in this listing is included. The video is intended to supplement the written description and photographs by showing the actual receiver powered and operating. Please review the video and photographs together before purchasing. They form an important part of the description of this specific unit. Why Buy From Bash Vintage Audio At Bash Vintage Audio, our goal is to accurately represent the vintage equipment we sell.
