For your consideration is a Harman Kardon 430 Twin Powered Stereo Receiver from 1975 in excellent condition with a complete recap and all troublesome transistors replaced (90+ parts replaced and upgraded, details below and pictures of replaced components). Cosmetically I would conservatively rate it 9.8 out of 10, for sound 10 out of 10 clean pristine sound on all inputs/outputs/functions/switches/buttons. The work done has returned this unit to its full original sonic glory. SEE FULL UPGRADE DETAILS BELOW AND REVIEW ALL PHOTOS CAREFULLY TO EVALUATE CONDITION. If you're here, you probably already know but this is a legendary receiver with big, warm clean sound far beyond its rated 25 watts per channel. These units are renowned for their twin amplifier transformers and classic sound. In an era where most companies were chasing more watts, Harman Kardon engineers focused on other metrics to improve sound at lower wattage delivering sound quality that exceeds its power rating and price point, making it a coveted item among collectors and music lovers. If you like that Harman Kardon "look", this one has it. I don't think a better looking receiver has been made. This thing looks slick, even in rooms with modern decor. You can't beat the style of this receiver and it has the goods under the hood to match. COSMETICS - Overall excellent condition with a few minor notes: First and most obvious there is a slight gouge on the top edge plastic face above the "r" in harman and a light fleabite ding about and inch left of that. There are some light scratches just above and to the right of the balance knob and some light scratches at the headphones input. That's it. Other than those areas this unit is clean and pristine. Review all photos for physical condition assessment, I have photographed all imperfections. Zoom photos and you will see this is in overall great cosmetic shape for its age. This is one of the nicest I have come across. UPGRADES - 90+ PARTS REPLACED WITH MODERN EQUIVALENTS FOR IMPROVED PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY. RECAPPED all boards (EVERY SINGLE CAPACITOR IN THIS RECEIVR HAS BEEN REPLACED, 49 total including filter capacitors) and all known troublesome/noisy transistors replaced in Power Amp (8 total), Tone Board (6 total), Phono Board (4 total) with modern equivalents for reliable performance and clean, pristine sound across all functions. New variable resistors for dialing in Bias which has been set to factory specifications 25mv. All dial lights, stereo bulb, power button bulb and dial pointer bulb have been replaced with LEDs, a much more reliable option. All pots/switches treated with appropriate deoxit d5 or f5, all functions sound pristine and clear at all levels. The FM receiver works great and the unit sounds amazing even in my rural part of the country, an attached antenna helps bring in further away stations. It will blow the roof off the house if you want it to, the sound fills the room and stays clean no matter the media or the volume. I strongly recommend playing with "contour" button engaged to hear the full potential of any Harman Kardon from this era, it is an incredibly warm, bright, clean sound.
